Others prefer we coordinate through their design professional, who manages the logistics and receives the findings on their behalf. Either way works. We're here to support your process, not complicate it.

What if I don't have professional drawings?

That's what Reality Check Plus is for. We start with a home visit to scan your space and walk through your ideas together. Our design team uses that to create three layout options—different ways to approach your remodel based on what you told us matters most. You get to see all three in VR during your session, compare them side-by-side, and gain clarity about which direction feels right. The Reality Check Report includes images of all three layouts you explored, giving you professional documentation to share when getting contractor bids—or as a foundation if you hire a local architect or designer to refine the design further.

How is this different from working with an architect or designer?

If you already have an architect or designer, it's not different—it's value-add. We help you experience their designs before committing to construction. If you don't, our design team can help you explore preliminary layouts through Reality Check Plus. We specialize in layout exploration—the 'what if we did it this way?' stage before engineering and permitting. Depending on your project, you may eventually need a local architect or designer for further refinement, structural work, permits, or construction documents. We can help with referrals when you're ready.

How does a Reality Check work?

We bring a VR headset to your home. Setup takes about five minutes, and you'll need roughly 6 feet by 6 feet of clear space—about the size of a medium area rug. Most sessions run about an hour. If you have multiple layout options to compare, we load them all so you can switch between them instantly and feel the difference. We capture your reactions on video as you walk through. Within one business day, you receive your Reality Check Report: a dedicated webpage with timestamped video of your session, a decision log capturing every observation and concern, an executive summary, and the complete transcript.

How long does the whole process take?

For Reality Check (when you already have a design): typically one week from when we receive the file to your in-home session. Reality Check Report arrives the next business day. For Reality Check Plus (when we're creating layouts for you): typically two to three weeks from your initial home visit to your VR session. The timeline varies based on project complexity and your feedback cycle. Your Reality Check Report arrives the next business day.

Question 6

Can my spouse, partner, or contractor join the session?

Yes. Everyone takes turns in the headset experiencing the same space—no interpretation required, no conflicting mental images. That's how you get everyone on the same page. We've had couples, families, and design-build teams all participate. If someone can't attend in person, the Reality Check Report gives them everything they need to see what you experienced.

Can I compare multiple layout options in the same session?

Absolutely. That's one of VR's biggest advantages—instant switching. You can feel the difference between layouts in seconds, not weeks. Walk through option one, switch to option two, go back to option one. The comparison is immediate, and the right choice usually becomes obvious fast.

That's the point—catching issues before construction, when revisions to the design are straightforward. If you're working with an architect, designer, or builder, they'll receive your Reality Check Report with all the findings. They can update the design, and many clients schedule a follow-up Reality Check session to experience the revisions. If you went through Reality Check Plus with our design team, you can continue working with us at an hourly rate to refine the layouts, or take what you learned and hire a local professional to finalize everything.

Is VR difficult to use? What about motion sickness?

Not at all. We use advanced VR technology built for smooth, comfortable movement—no motion sickness. Most people are comfortable exploring their space within the first few minutes, and we guide you through everything. You don't need any prior VR experience. The headset is lightweight, the controls are intuitive, and you can take breaks anytime.

What if we're already under construction?

VR can still help with decisions that haven't been finalized yet—cabinet configuration, fixture placement, millwork details—anything that you're still deciding. The earlier you use it the better, but it's not too late if you're mid-project and facing a decision that feels uncertain.

Where do you operate?

We serve the greater Seattle area—generally within about 50 miles of the city. If you're outside that range, reach out anyway. Depending on your project and timeline, we may be able to make it work.

That's exactly when Reality Check Plus makes the most sense. You can test layout ideas before setting a firm budget or hiring a contractor. Walking through different options in VR helps you figure out what's worth pursuing—and what you can skip. You'll leave knowing whether a remodel makes sense for you, and if it does, what you actually want. That clarity makes every step after that easier and cheaper.
